A joint class with the mathematics department for three days from December 7, “Mathematics General Lecture 1: Connecting Space and Molecules using Mathematics: Chemical reactions and chaos” will be held.
Mathematics plays a very important role in molecular science. In recent years, the concept of the dynamical system theory called the hyperbolic invariant manifold—also applied to the efficient navigation route design of spacecrafts—is used to elucidate the basics of chemical reactions in which atoms constituting a molecule move and rearrange themselves. This approach gives richer images for the analysis of chemical reactions. We will learn how chemical reactions are being unraveled through dynamical system theory.
